Other uniform requirements

A ban on loom bands, further details can be read here

A wristwatch and one plain type ring may be worn. Earrings are not suitable for school but students with pierced ears are permitted to wear one pair of stud type earrings only in the lobe. No other jewellery should be worn, which includes any facial or visible piercings. No extreme hairstyles/hair colours are permitted and excessively applied make-up is unacceptable. Nail varnish is also not permitted. Heads of Year will contact parents or carers if there is a concern and discuss the issue with you.

An appropriate outdoor coat that is designed to be worn over a blazer may be worn on the way to and from school. Therefore, hooded sweatshirts (hoodies) and tracksuit tops are not acceptable. They are too informal as uniform and do not support the school ethos. Some groups of students and members of the public find hoodies intimidating and students can use them as a means to hide identity. This is not an image we wish to promote at Hetton School. If worn, they will be confiscated by the member of staff but can be collected by the student at the Pastoral House base at the end of the school day. For repeated offences (as with mobile phones), the parent or carer will be asked to collect the item. The only exceptions to this are our Junior Sports Leaders who will be permitted to wear hooded tops but only when on active duty. We are looking to redesign this particular top.
