During this difficult time, I wanted to contact you to let you know that, even though our school is currently closed, we are still here to support your child and your family in whatever way we can. You might be noticing signs of increasing anxiety in your child as they are spending more time indoors and away from their normal routines. These might include:
- Acting out – this might include things like picking fights with you or with siblings or even abusing alcohol or drugs.
- Becoming afraid to leave the house.
- Distancing themselves from their friends and family.
- Exhibiting intense emotions but being unable to talk about what they are feeling.
We have put together some resources on the linked PDF above, to help you support you and your child. We hope you find this information helpful. If you have any concerns about how your child is coping, or you need any other support from the school, please let us know by emailing your child’s pastoral team through the relevant Head of Year’s email address:
Year 7 and 8: email@example.com
Year 9 and 10: firstname.lastname@example.org
Year 11: email@example.com
If you have recently changed your mobile or house number can you please contact us and provide us with updated details. If you have not received a call from us yet it may be that the contact details we have are out of date.
You may have heard lots of speculation about students returning to school, but we know nothing more than you do on this. We will will inform you of any changes to the current situation as soon as we can. In the meantime please keep supporting the work our team is setting your child on ClassCharts. Between 10am and 12pm on Monday 11th May, Tuesday 12th May and Wednesday 13th May, the school main entrance will be open for students or parents to collect another exercise book for the completion of schoolwork. There will be a supply of exercise books in the first foyer of the main entrance (please only take one each). The door will open automatically to allow access; if others are already collecting when you arrive, please observe social distancing measures before approaching.
Current years 8 and 9 have some important decisions to make about the future courses they wish to study next academic year. These are the first steps towards GCSE courses and this should be an exciting time. Further information on all areas of study will be sent home as a hard copy in the next week, and uploaded to Class Charts (along with the actual options form which is to be returned no later than Monday 1st June).
For our current Year 10s, we want to make sure that we provide the best possible support for their return. As I said, we are still unsure when this will be, and as a precautionary measure we will look to provide more time in the core areas of study. You will receive a personal information sheet explaining how this will be done. It has a return date of Monday 1st June. Information sheets on each subject area will also be uploaded to Class Charts.
We are extremely grateful for all the support you have shown us as we have adapted to these new circumstances, and we want to reassure you that we are still here to support you too. We can and will get through this together.
