“Be like a turtle … You have to stick your neck out to be successful” was one of the many pieces of advice offered by star visitor David Dein today.
On Tuesday 10th March at Hetton School hosted a talk from David Dein via the Speakers for Schools programme.
David Dein is a football entrepreneur and businessman. David joined the Arsenal Board in 1983 and was made Vice-Chairman in the same year. He also rose to Vice-Chairman of the Football Association, and has served on numerous UEFA and FIFA Committees.
David was President of the Arsenal Ladies Team, which has consistently been the best in the land.
He was the man who had the foresight to bring Arsene Wenger to Arsenal in 1996.

David was one of the main architects in the creation of the Premier League in 1992 and has been at the forefront of many of the important changes in football including the introduction of Goal Line Technology.
The interactive talk lasted 30-40 mins with Q&A afterwards. Although football-related, the theme was secrets of success and the attitudes you need to display to be successful.
His audience was around 100 students, a mix of Year 9, Year 10 & Year 11. These students included many young sports stars, sports leaders, business/media students and members of Hetton’s highly successful cricket academy.
