Background

A group of year 10 and 11 students at Hetton Comprehensive School are trying to fundraise money to go to Tanzania in the summer of 2012.

The purpose of the visit is to work with communities that are less fortunate than themselves.

When the students are in Tanzania they will undertake renovations to a school. In addition to this they will also do some teaching as well as some water aid work. There are 18 pupils going on the visit and together they have to raise at least £60,000. They obviously have a lot of hard work ahead of them, over the next two years, to be able to go on the visit. At the present time they are putting together a diary of events they want to carry out in order to raise the required funds. They are now planning a fashion show, a Christmas Raffle, a sponsored abseil, several school discos and they also have some enterprise activities planned.
